College Dean Garners 2009 Emerald Award for Excellence

Dean’s award winning paper focuses on organizational leadership
Trenton, NJ (April 3, 2009) —Joseph C. Santora, EdD, of Brielle, N.J., dean of the School of Business and Management at Thomas Edison State College, was recently notified that his article “Founders leaders and organizational life cycles:  The choice is easy — Learn or fail,” which was published in Development and Learning in Organizations: An International Journal, has been chosen as an Outstanding Paper Award Winner at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2009.

Every year Emerald invites each journal’s editorial team to nominate what they believe has been that title’s outstanding paper and up to three highly commended papers from the previous 12 months. The award winning papers are chosen following consultation amongst the journal’s editorial team, many of whom are eminent academics or managers. Santora’s paper, which he co-authored with James Sarros, professor of Management at Monash University in Australia, was selected, the team noted, “As it was one of the most impressive pieces of work the team has seen throughout the year.”

“It is an honor to be recognized by Emerald and the editorial team from this prestigious journal,” Santora said. “There were many outstanding papers considered and to be recognized by one’s peers is very rewarding.”

Santora earned his doctorate from Fordham University. Prior to joining Thomas Edison State College, he was a full professor of business at Essex County College in Newark, N.J., and served in various administrative capacities during his tenure there. He has held visiting international graduate professorships: Heilbronn Business School (Germany), International School of Management (France) and Monash-Mt. Eliza Business School (Australia). Santora served as an external PhD dissertation examiner for Monash University (Australia), taught management and organizational behavior courses at several U.S. graduate schools, and worked on the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) for Educational Testing Service (Princeton, N.J.). Santora has consulted with more than two dozen organizations in several areas including leadership development, board training and succession planning, has published numerous articles and books on leadership and management, and has presented at conferences around the world.
